The state regulations of NSW apply to Sydney as well as well as other NSW cities. NSW has done a comprehensive review of ‘Swimming Pools Act 1992, which has been finalised in 2012. This new pool fencing regulations has a lot of similarities with the QLD regulations that was brought out in 2010. The main purpose of this comprehensive review was to make pools in NSW safer for the young children.
Every home with swimming pools has to be registered by 29th October 2013.
Registration will be available to use by 29th of April 2013.
Failing to register will attract a penalty of $2,200.
Every home has to have a pool compliance certificate before the property is rented or sold
Pool registration must be done within 12 months of its establishment
Pool fencing must be certified within 12 months as well
Pool owners can certify their own pool fence however it is advisable to hire a professional to do the job, Because otherwise important elements of the pool fencing certification may be missed and pool owners might be exposed to a massive fine for having illegal pool fencing.

Double gates, roller doors and tilt up doors are not permitted to form part of the pool fencing enclosure.
Padlocks and keyed locks are not permitted devices to secure gates.
The skimmer box should be fitted with a safety device to prevent children using the skimmer box as a seat.

If the swimming pool enclosure includes a wall that contains a door or window which permits access to the pool enclosure, it should be secured according to Australian Standard AS1926.1.
